Roman type. 4to, 216x155 mm, 18th-century vellum with calligraphic spine title in ink, recased, endpapers renewed; first leaf soiled, with blank portion excised and crudely restored, contents otherwise generally clean. Bookplates of the bibliographer Gilbert R. Redgrave (1844-1941), with his ownership inscription and notes on the woodcut border; and W. R. first edition of a collection of 14 dialogues, satires, and miscellaneous writings, all but 5 of which appear here for the first time, by the 2nd-century A.D. Greek rhetorician and satirist. The title work, which was first published in 1475/76, is the earliest known example of prose fiction dealing with interplanetary travel.
